We offer a range of services to help you with your couple and family relationships, whether you’re young or old, straight or gay, single or in a relationship.
Lots of people have an idea of what relationship counselling is and think that you only need counselling when things get really bad. But we’re here whenever you need us, no matter what situation you face in your relationship. Even if your problems seem trivial, we can help.
Family counselling can help when siblings aren’t getting on, or when parents and children are going through a divorce or separation. Forming a new family is a challenge and it is at this point that many parents contact Relate for some support to help everyone settle.
Individual counselling can help with a number of issues including low mood, anxiety, grief as well as difficulties with relationships. There may also be significant milestones in our lives when we need support such as retiring or when our children leave home. Our qualified counsellors can provide the space for you to talk through your feelings, build resilience and develop coping strategies.
Children and Young People’s Counselling is for any young person aged 10 plus who’s having problems. Our counsellors can support you with problems like family breakdown; moving in with a second family; bullying at school; friendship groups, new relationships, generally not feeling like yourself, conflict, and a whole range of other issues.
All couples go through phases where they don’t have the time or energy for regular sex. If this has become the norm and you would like to rediscover your sex life, Relate’s Sex Therapists can help you. It’s natural to want better sex with your partner and sometimes there are specific reasons for your difficulties. Don’t be embarrassed about it, ask for help.
Sometimes, when there’s nothing else for it, marriages and partnerships end in divorce or separation and couples have to go their separate ways. If you have children, it’s important that your break-up goes as smoothly as possible to have as little impact on them as you can manage. Even if you don’t have kids, any relationship break down can affect all other areas of your life.
If you are separating, divorcing or ending a cohabiting relationship, or trying to resolve parenting issues, family mediation helps you sort out disputes without involving big legal fees or going through a long-drawn-out court battle. A family mediator is an independent third person who will help both parties to reach a resolution which feels balanced and fair.
Video Counselling allows you to discuss your relationship problems with one of our counsellors from any location that is convenient for you: at home, or somewhere private at work. This service gives you all the benefits of our face-to-face relationship counselling in a flexible and convenient format.
We believe that relationship skills can be learned and that it helps to talk about relationships with other people who are going through similar things. Our workshops can help you to put things in perspective, learn how to deal with difficult situations, restore balance to family life and keep time aside for you and those close to you. We have a range of courses that are delivered in our centre, at schools and colleges and we can design bespoke courses.
