Relationship Counsellors
Relate Mid & East Surrey have the following hours available for Relationship Counsellors at our Reigate Centre:
- minimum of 8 hours per week, to include 4 evening hours (6-10pm) or Saturday morning (9am – 1pm)
There may be the opportunity for more hours or to also offer other services, such as individual adult counselling, depending on qualifications.
Main Purpose of the role:
To deliver and evaluate high quality, effective and professional relationship counselling services to Relate clients when required
Responsibilities:
Adhere to the codes of ethics and practice adopted by Relate and relevant Counselling Professional Bodies.
Be aware of and adhere to all Relate policies and practices, including Child Protection and Confidentiality to ensure the safety of clients and staff
To maintain confidential records according to the data protection regulations and centre procedures
To maintain and deliver records to enable the Centre to effectively monitor the use of the service and feedback from clients within agreed timescales
To participate in individual and counsellor (clinical) supervision and team meetings as required
To take responsibility for professional development and training as agreed with Supervisor and CEO to maintain your professional status and to meet business development needs
To work collaboratively with the Centre team and the Federation to ensure the relationship counselling services are delivered in a co-ordinated, professional and efficient manner
Positively and proactively undertake other duties as required by the centre manager that are appropriate to the position.
To apply for this role
- candidates MUST have a minimum Level 5 counselling qualification – recognised relationship counselling qualification with Relate or equivalent
- candidates MUST have a specific qualification in Relationship Counselling and preferably at least a years’ experience
- candidates MUST have provided at least 150 counselling hours working with couples
- live within reasonable travelling distance
- answer the screening questions, explaining clearly your relevant qualification & experience, number of counselling hours, and give an idea of the hours you are interested in

Appointment Secretary/Receptionist – Epsom
We are looking for a friendly, efficient and organised part time Appointment Secretary/ Receptionist to join our busy counselling centre based in Epsom.
You will be the first to welcome our clients to our centre, answer the phone to new enquiries and current clients, respond to all incoming emails and enquiries, update and maintain our appointment booking system, and liaise with our counsellors and internal staff. We are looking for someone who is passionate about customer service, has excellent communication and IT skills, professional and sensitive approach to confidential information and a positive and hardworking attitude.
Relate Mid & East Surrey is a charity offering counselling services to couples, young people, families and individuals across Mole Valley, Reigate & Banstead, Epsom & Ewell & Tandridge areas. Key responsibilities:
- To greet clients to the centre in a friendly, professional and approachable manner
- To respond to all incoming emails and enquiries using Microsoft Outlook
- To answer the phone to new enquiries, existing clients and internal staff
- To register new clients on our computerised appointment system
- To maintain an accurate and full client file, ensuring all correspondence is updated on the computerised booking system system
- To maintain and operate a computerised diary system for counselling appointments
- To send clients questionnaires and payment requests via the computer system
- To liaise with counsellors and management team
- Deal sensitively with client information, maintaining client confidentiality at all times
- To read, comply and keep up to date with the organisation’s policies and procedures
- To ensure correct filing and archiving
- To attend quarterly team meetings
- To cover annual leave / sickness for other staff
- To contribute to general good house keeping
- To attend training as appropriate

We are looking for staff to cover the following shifts:
Epsom: Mondays 5.45pm – 9.30/10pm and Thursdays 5.15 pm – 9.30/10 pm
Applicants will also require flexibility to cover staff annual leave including daytime (9am – 2 pm) and evening (5.15 pm – 9.30/10 pm) shifts.

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications
We are looking for a Qualified Sex Therapist to work with our friendly and professional team.
The successful candidate needs to have been on a COSRT accredited training course plus relationship training with either Relate or an externally approved training provider.

Volunteer Receptionists
About Relate Mid and East Surrey
We aim to change lives in Mid & East Surrey by offering a range of counselling services aiming to support people in times of difficulty and crisis. We offer five core services:
- Relationship counselling
- Young People’s counselling
- Family counselling
- Sex therapy
- Mediation
All our services are subsidised however we will offer further bursaries or free sessions where finances are a barrier to seeking help. Our aim is to help everyone who needs our support regardless of their financial situation. Our Couples Report (March 2021 – April 2022) showed that our counselling services have had a significant impact on clients’ lives.
Who are we looking for
We are looking for a bank of volunteer receptionists to work in both our Epsom and Reigate centres. You will have a good telephone manner and be welcoming and sensitive to clients when they arrive at the centre. You will have a calm and sympathetic manner. This would be an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to give back through volunteering for a local charity. Perhaps you are thinking of returning to work and would like to gain some experience, or perhaps you are interested in a career in counselling and would like to see how we operate in the centre?
The Volunteer Receptionist role
The role will involve answering phone calls, welcoming clients to the centre when they arrive for their appointment and basic administrative tasks.
The main tasks are:
- Welcoming clients
- Answering the telephone
- Taking messages from enquiries
- Leaving handover notes to the rest of the secretarial team
- Basic administrative tasks
- Responsible for locking up the centre

Volunteer rota and shifts
Our counselling service is open Monday to Thursday from 9am – 2pm and from 6pm -10pm. On Friday we are open from 9am -2pm and on Saturday from 9am – 1pm.
Volunteer receptionists would be asked to cover daytime, evening and weekend slots and this would be as and when required, sometimes at short notice, to cover annual leave and sickness of the current team members.
Expenses
We will provide a free parking space or reimburse travel costs.
